Step into the delightful world of candy-making with these Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes! This fun and colorful treat is not just a nostalgic nod to childhood but also a fantastic way to engage kids in the kitchen and create lasting memories.
1 tablespoon Kool-Aid powder (any flavor of your choice)
Food coloring (optional)
Additional Kool-Aid for stronger flavor (optional)
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 4 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin. Stir gently until the gelatin is fully dissolved, then let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
Once bloomed, add the remaining 1 cup of water, 2 cups of granulated sugar, and 1 cup of light corn syrup to the saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a simmer.
Continue to stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth, about 5 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the Kool-Aid powder until well combined. Add food coloring if desired.
Prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by lightly greasing it with non-stick spray or a thin layer of oil.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and let it cool at room temperature for at least 4 hours, or until set.
Once set, remove the candy from the baking dish and cut it into long strips or ropes.
Allow the licorice ropes to sit for an additional hour to firm up before storing or serving.
